Carla Brooks Makeup Artist
I’ve thought long and hard over the ‘about me’ part of this site, but when it comes down to it I’m a very straight talking, honest person. To stay true to myself, I wanted you to see the real me; the passion, the determination and the truth about how I became a makeup artist and built an incredible team of creatives.
I can easily tell you that I’m going to create flawless, long-lasting makeup that’s suitable for an abundance of occasions; TV, Weddings, Editorial. Hopefully from looking through my portfolio that’s the easy part covered. But what I have come to realise over time is that there is no greater feeling then job satisfaction. The most important thing to me is that my clients know I really care. I always work to incredibly high standards and I am happy to say that this is reflected in each and every client that I spend time with. I will not leave until a client is 100% happy, whatever that involves and I always stay with my bridal clients to assist with the gown and accessories. Many times I have followed my brides to churches, venues, hotels, dropped off second dresses and met up for coffee to discuss 65 shades of pink when it comes to lipstick!
The reason for becoming a makeup artist, for me, is probably very different to most other artists. I was never in love with ‘makeup’ as a product but I was, and still am, in love with good feeling! I do not look for a person's imperfections, I do not follow trends, but instead I talk openly with my clients about finding the best way to make them feel incredible and build confidence in their view of themselves. For me, this is what ‘makeup’ is all about. I have always been extremely passionate about bringing out the natural beauty in women, especially when it comes to some of the most important days in their lives.
Every day of my job is different. I cannot do routine. I’ve honestly tried, but I‘m just not a 9-5 kind of girl! I love the fact that my week is variable; from working on a TV set in one breath to getting stuck in with my brides in the next! Rest assured that if I book an appointment I will be there, I do not set myself up to fail. I am always realistic with clients about what is achievable in a period of time.
I thrive on good feeling and I love to work with great people. Nothing is possible alone and teamwork is necessary to achieve great things, especially when it comes to weddings. I want my brides to experience a calm, relaxed morning with their family and friends and so far I have never had a bride late or stressed on their wedding morning!
Which brings me onto Team Glam, Tara Cox and I started Team Glam Ltd back in 2014 to ensure that we could offer our clients the best possible team of hair and makeup artists should we already be booked. We have been so fortunate to build not only an incredibly talented team, but a team that work to exceed all of our clients expectations. I am truly grateful for all the hard work that our team have put into helping us build an impeccable reputation, working alongside our team makes me feel incredibly proud of all their achievements.
When it comes to kit, I am not brand loyal. I have spent thousands of pounds trying different products and over 10 years have finally created ‘my’ perfect kit. I only use premium branded products to ensure that the makeup I use is of the highest quality and durability, meaning all of the makeup in my kit is suitable for HD camera.
I have a vast amount of experience in my field, ranging from from high profile individuals to working on live TV for the BBC, ITV and Sky Sports. I have had an incredible time working on editorial shoots for the national press and publication groups such as Condenast, Herst and Immediate Media, creating briefs for bridal fashion designers runway shows and, the pleasure of attending destination weddings for private clients.
I have spent hour upon hour researching products, observing trends, attending master classes, teaching master classes, watching other makeup artists (which I still do now) and shopping for makeup, you name it, I’ve tried it!
But, the truth is, when I ask my clients for feedback their words are what speak: Client Testimonials
